Since its introduction in 2010, the SIP tachometer has revolutionized the classic scooter speedometer market. Features that previously required the inclusion of extra instrumentation have now been integrated into its design with the utmost understatement. Several years and countless customer requests have culminated in us reuniting with the people at KOSO to develop an update to our first generation SIP tachometer that we can be truly proud of: the SIP tachometer / speedometer 2.0!
Its external appearance remains strikingly similar to that of the original item and its additional functions are virtually invisible when not in use. The design of the speedometer dial is also largely identical to that of the Italian original with kilometer scale along with the overall dimensions of the unit. These speedometers are available with both black and white colored numerical surfaces. Additionally, the version available for the old school Vespa VBB models can also be ordered in beige/white, providing an authentic, sun-bleached look. Installation could not be easier and does not require any special knowledge. It can measure speed with the conventional speedometer cable and drivetrain or alternatively with the inclusion of the electronic wheel speed sensor kit, which is available separately. The speedometer function can no longer be interrupted due to worms or defective speedometer drive cables and its accuracy is also improved. The rpm value is determined through its connection to the light signal provided by the wiring harness.
All data recorded by the device is saved for future reference by an internal storage facility. The unit operates on 12V AC/DC and does not require any battery in the scooter's electrical system. It is also fully compatible with Parmakit Performance SIP Performance/Vespatronic and ignition systems. Using the SIP PERFORMANCE Ignition by VAPE DC version with the SIP speedometer requires a Rev Signal Filter from KOSO . Instead of the Rev Signal Filter you can also connect the brown wire from the SIP speedometer to the white CDI wire of the SIP /VAPE CDI with an extra wire! The setting on the speedometer using the DC version is 1 and AC is 6.
To adjust and scroll through the functions on the electronic display, a small button is included, which can be easily and discreetly positioned under the scooter's existing light switch. A snazzy gimmick: during the power-up sequence, the speedometer unit performs a complete function check, similar to today's high-tech GP racing machines.
New in version 2.0 is the choice between an analogue speedometer or rev counter. The speedometer needle can be used to display either speed or rpm. On longer trips you can also record the total time of your trip and the average speeds for both the daily stages and the entire tour, which can be set individually. The total number of kilometres travelled, recorded by your original speedometer, can also be transferred to the displayed km value. In combination with the SIP rapid-flow fuel tap, with fuel reserve sensor, all Vespa models can now benefit from a fuel level warning function. To indicate the backflow level in the fuel tank, "FUEL" starts to flash on the electronic display. In addition, it also improves the voltage regulation of the entire electrical system.
The speed readings on the analog numerical face of the SIP speedometer/tachometer designed for the Vespa smallframe models range up to 80. These speedometers are intended for use in the Vespa V 50/PK models which rarely reach higher speeds or engine revolutions. Now, finally, we can provide a high-tech alternative to the more basic reproduction speedometers that are otherwise currently available.
Notice: Use spark plugs and resistive caps with interference suppression.
Conclusion: The first high-end cockpit instrument for classic Vespa models that successfully combines a speedometer and a rev counter in one almost completely original-looking component. Whether you are a racer, rally-goer, tourer or urban cowboy, it offers benefits for everyone!
