Oil filler/drain screw M8 x 8 mm, hexagonal, SIP , Vespa 50 - 125

Special replacement oil filler/drain cap bolt found on small/large vintage Vespa engines.

Even the smallest parts have room for improvement or simplification. A good example is this particular M8 bolt with an 11mm hex head. This configuration is unusual to most, but familiar to Vespa owners. Almost all vintage Vespa models with large and small frames use this thread/bolt head combination as the oil filler neck and bolts in their engine cases.

High quality and well fitting gasket.

This version offers the advantage of a magnet pressed firmly into the center of the threaded shaft of the bolts. This is included to collect the oil swarf particles that can, over time, be produced by normal wear of the transmission components. This prevents them from contaminating and potentially damaging the bearings or sliding surfaces lubricated by the oil.

Due to the relatively small shaft diameter of Vespa engine oil filler/drain plug bolts, the integrated magnet on this type protrudes from the centre by 4mm. This increases its surface area and with it its chip collection capacity. There is usually enough space inside Vespa gearboxes to allow for this slight extension, but always check for dirt before use! The kit includes a copper gasket which sits on the shaft between the head and the bolt thread to prevent incorrect positioning during assembly.

Bottom line: A non-invasive yet useful part that can actually help prevent internal engine wear!
