Ø 58 135cc Aluminum Cylinder with Direct Reed Valve Intake – Gilardoni Technology

The VMC THUG is the modern answer for those who want to upgrade their Vespa Smallframe engine without excessive complications.
Designed as an advanced replacement for classic old-style thermal units, the THUG offers the reliability of aluminum and the efficiency of reed valve aspiration, ensuring smooth power delivery and superior durability.

It's a solid cylinder: ideal for those looking for an engine that's responsive at low revs and brilliant on long journeys, but at the same time it represents an excellent starting point for those who want to try their hand at more advanced tuning at a later stage.

Technical Details and Configurations

  • Bore Ø 58 mm (Stroke 51 ): 135cc for a balanced and responsive engine.

  • Phases ~124° ~184°

  • 6 intake ports and single exhaust port

  • 56mm stud center distance and 32mm exhaust diameter

Materials and Processing:

  • Aluminum cylinder with chrome-plated NiKaSil barrel by Gilardoni . An absolute guarantee of thermal stability, reduced friction, and consistent performance even on long summer trips.

  • Direct intake with oversized reed valve pack ( Yamaha RD350 type), for optimal management of the intake phase and always stable carburetion.

"8-Bolt" Warhead and Combustion Chamber

  • 8-point fixing: Uses the 4 classic studs integrated with 4 additional screws , eliminating the risk of leaks and deformations.

  • Laterally positioned spark plug with electrode centered in the combustion chamber, for symmetrical flame propagation and optimal thermal efficiency.

Ease of Installation and Versatility

  • It can be mounted on Vespa 50 and Ape 50 crankcases without having to remove the half-moon dust cover .

  • Full compatibility with flywheels equipped with a ring nut for electric start .

  • Supplied with 28/30mm carburettor manifold (male connection) and high quality silicone hose with reinforced internal mesh and all necessary screws

  • Exhaust with 56mm stud center distance and 32mm exit pipe.

  • Complete gasket kit

Frame Compatibility

  • For "Smallframe Vintage" frames (Special 50, ET3, Primavera, 50 N/L/R).

  • Coming soon: Dedicated manifolds for PK and Ape 50 models.
