Special replacement oil fill/drain plug bolt found on small/large vintage Vespa engines.

Even the smallest parts offer room for improvement or simplification. A good example is this particular M8 bolt with an 11mm hex head. This configuration is unusual for most, but familiar to Vespa owners. Nearly all vintage Vespa models with both large and small frames use this thread/bolt head combination as the oil filler neck and crankcase bolts.

This version offers the advantage of a magnet firmly pressed into the center of the bolt thread. This is included to collect oil chips that can, over time, be produced by normal wear of transmission components. This prevents them from contaminating and potentially damaging the bearings or sliding surfaces lubricated by the oil.

Due to the relatively small shaft diameter of Vespa engine oil filler/drain plug bolts, the integrated magnet on this type protrudes 4 mm from the center. This increases its surface area and thus its chip collection capacity. There's usually enough space inside Vespa gearboxes to allow for this slight extension, but always check for dirt before use! The kit includes a copper gasket that sits on the shaft between the head and the bolt thread to prevent incorrect positioning during assembly.

Bottom line: A subtle yet useful part that can actually help prevent internal engine wear!
