Where a four-stroke engine requires valves, camshaft, exhaust and a turbo, a two-stroke engine requires only a well-designed exhaust. A few pieces of sheet metal formed to create a shape that perfectly harmonizes with the arrangement and size of the openings in the cylinder bore, known as transfer and exhaust ports. The design of the resonance chamber not only affects the removal of hot exhaust gases, but the pulse effect also affects the flow of the fresh fuel mixture into the cylinder. As simple as the description may seem, creating a properly formed expansion chamber body is a science in itself. This is where the wheat is separated from the chaff.
