Properly set ignition timing is essential for any tuned engine. This factor often separates the wheat from the chaff.

The SIP mounting bracket for the SIP Gradimeter is a very practical tool that should not be missing in any well-equipped workshop. When combined with the SIP Gradimeter, it allows for optimal ignition timing adjustment. It can be used on both two- and four-stroke engines, whether on a vintage Vespa or Lambretta, or on 50-180cc two- and four-stroke automatic scooters.

Instructions:

1. Determine Top Dead Center (TDC)
2. Mark the position of the arrow on the flywheel on the crankcase with a marker.
3. Attach the degree disc and align the 0 with the marking on the crankcase.
4. Also mark the desired ignition point (counterclockwise) on the crankcase.
5. Remove the ignition disc, start the scooter, and use the strobe light to check the desired ignition by marking the lines with the arrow on the flywheel. Readjust the position of the stator plate until the correct position is found. To save time and effort during subsequent maintenance, permanently mark both the crankcase and stator to record their relative positions.
